Description
This two hour kayak & lilo adventure up the Storms River Gorge in the Tsitsikamma National Park is our most popular activity for good reasons. You’ll get to explore deeper into the hidden world of the Storms River Gorge than most people ever do and experience the long, bottomless pools, deep caves and ancient indigenous forests with nothing but the quiet noises of nature around you.
Itinerary
We paddle from the harbour next to the small beach across the ocean, then under the Suspension Bridge and up the beautiful Storms River Mouth. Please note that if the sea is rough, you have to hike to the Suspension Bridge (along a boardwalk trail), where we then hike along the river from the suspension bridge up to the jetty to where you then get on onto your kayaks. This 1km hike takes about 30 minutes.
- PADDLE UP THE STORMS RIVER MOUTH
This is where the true Kayaking adventure begins – paddling the Storms River, the pinnacle of Tsitsikamma National Park. After waving to all the tourists photographing you from the Suspension Bridge, we continue the kayak trip up the Stormsriver. We paddle right into the bats cave and spend time gazing up at the magnificent and spectacular cliffs all around us, all from the comfort of our double sit-on-top kayaks.
- LILO DEEPER UP THE STORMS RIVER GORGE
At the low-water point (where the 1 hour kayak trip turns around) we disembark our kayaks and we jump on our unique Lilo’s. (a Lilo is an inflatable mattress that we’ve had specially made for this trip). From here we walk and float over a short section of rocks and simply wade deeper up the river on the Lilo’s. What a stunning view it is, laying on a Lilo at water level, and gazing up to cliffs that touch the sky! At reaching a certain point, we simply turn our Lilo’s around and float back down river to our kayaks!
- CLIFF JUMPING
For the young, brave and adventurous (and the young, brave and adventurous at heart!) we take the opportunity up Storms River to leap off overhangs in the cliff walls into deep pools in the gorge. The cliff jumping adds a good dose of adrenaline for your trip back, as well as some good laughs, friendly encouragement and one-of-a-kind photo opportunities to brag to all your buddies when you get home. Cliff Jumping is not compulsory – you can simply enjoy the spectacle as you leisurely float in the long pools below. We’ve had kids as young as 6 and grandparents take the leap and enjoy the Lilo-ing, so we can truly say that this activity can be enjoyed by the whole family!

We had an amazing time with our guides Nico, Marshall and Chicken. They were caring and ensured we were safe at all times. We enjoyed every moment especially seeing the sting rays below us. Thank you for sharing your knowledge about the environment as well as being friendly. You guys are the best!
Amazing experience! We did the 2.5 hours kajak and lilo. Going up Storms River is just beautiful and on top of that the guides make it a fun, entertaining and also interesting tour by sharing interesting facts and doing some "challenges" for those who want some "more" adventure.
Very cool adventure through the Tsitsikamma river valley. Very nice guides caring all the time about your safety. You need to be a bit physical strong to have a full joy of the tour and with bad weather conditions I definitely recommend a wetsuit and shoes to borrow. Bring a towel. For the price is really a nice adventure in the water and the scenery is beautiful! Definitely to recommend !
Great trip to spent some time in the water albeit very short. We were only informed that morning that our day trip was cancelled due to high water levels but they did offer the half day trip instead which was great. It only left me wondering why they did not warn us instead for this possibility since they told me they weren’t able to do de day tour for two weeks already due to the high level. Could have avoided the rush and stress we experienced that morning.
What an amazing experience! Highly recommend to anyone who wants to experience something unique and breathtaking. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Dressing rooms are not the best but does the job.
